ALD. INTERIOR THOUGHTS

TREND SPOTLIGHT.

  • Trend Spotlight: Rattan

    First question… what IS rattan?

    • Rattan is a naturally renewable palm that grows in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia and Australasia, and is used for furniture, handicrafts, and building material among others.

Best way to use it? Accent furniture!

    • indoor planters
    • baskets
    • side tables
    • accent chairs

The use of rattan materials automatically warms up any space by bringing in the outdoor earthy elements. Don’t be afraid to use it even in modern, sleek spaces. One touch of it goes a long way!

  • Trend Spotlight: Terrazzo

First… what actually is terrazzo? It is a composite material, poured in place or precast, which is used for floor and wall treatments.

Now, it is generally used to describe any patterns similar to the original terrazzo floors. Hence why we have this style on furniture, home decor, notebooks, and anything else you can really think of!

Think about where you have seen this pattern?
💭 Do you like it on the walls / floors?
💭 Or do you prefer it as a statement furniture piece?
💭 Do you think this trend will fade where you live?

I believe this pattern is timeline if used in the right way and will always make its way back to the spotlight.

  • Trend Spotlight: Colorful Curtains

This may just be a current trend, but it certainly is a fun one! It can also be timeless if used in the proper ratio. Colorful window treatments are great in neutral spaces that need a pop of color!

I highly recommended these for rental units. Most rentals have a neutral palette and instead of needing to repaint the walls back, substitute for color in curtains. They can be swapped through different seasons while keeping your main furniture pieces the same.

What are thoughts on this trend?
💭 Do you like this idea as a pop of color in a main space in a neutral space?
💭 Or do you prefer it in a smaller room as the focal point?

  • Trend Spotlight: Arch Shaped Elements

The arch tends to be a prominent shape interior designers gravitate to when creating a focal point in a room. The rounded edge exudes warmth into a room and plays nicely against square and rectangular furniture pieces.

The arch is suitable for any design style: minimalist, Japandi, modern, mid-century, traditional, art deco… the list goes on.

This is a terrific addition to any home to bring in new value and a timeless look.
